BELOW IS Jim Capatelli – POST (IN FULL) TO MY ARTICLE:

Irma,

This is what I would have told my son, five years ago. It is more true today, five years later, then it even was then. Best to you:

“The other day, my nine year old son wanted to know why we were waging war against Iraq. I said, ‘Okay son, imagine our neighborhood is the entire world and each house in the neighborhood is a different country. Now imagine that our house is the biggest and fanciest on the entire block. In fact, in the entire town! It’s bigger than every single other house put together! In our house, there are exactly 100 people living there. 20 of those people are extremely poor, but they’re better off, mostly, then the people in many of the other houses in our neighborhood. Some of those houses are extremely crowded, with many poor people jammed together in a much smaller space. At least in our house, the 20 very poor people have a more space and a little more food.

“Then there are about 60 people in our house who aren’t poor, but they see it rough. They generally have enough money to pay their bills, but they are in constant danger of becoming one of the poor people if they miss even one or two paychecks. And, a lot of these people can’t afford to see a doctor, even when they’re very sick, because they have no health care.

“Then we have about 18 people in our house who are very comfortable and well-off. They aren’t rich, but they are significantly better off than the 60 people I just described. Most of them have lots of investments that protect them for a very long time if they ever lost their jobs. They are very priviledged people.

“Finally, we have 2 people who consider themselves the “rulers” of the other 98 people. They pretend to care about all 100 of us, but they really don’t. They are only friends with each other and a small number of the group of 18 people. They make the rules for the rest of us but do it in such a way that the other 98 people actually think that all 100 are making the rules.

“These 2 people have everything they want. They live like kings in the same house with everyone else. They have the best food, rooms, clothes and cars. They can go anywhere in the neighborhood and visit for as long as they desire. And they’ve convinced most of the other 98 people that they should be serving the two at the top. The other 98 cook their food, clean their rooms and clothes, and wait on them hand and foot. The two at the top love this arrangement. And most of the other 98 don’t disagree with them. They think, “One day, I’ll be one of the two at the top and everyone else will have to do for me!”

“These 98 people are without a clue most of the time and that’s the way those two at the top like it to be. The two at the top control all of the information the other 98 receive and they make sure it doesn’t tell them anything they don’t want them to know. Whenever one of the group of 60 or 18 says, “Hey, why don’t you two at the top help the other 98 a little more?”, the two at the top say, “Hey, look over there! Those 20 at the bottom are trying to get YOUR money!” Usually this works and most of the other 78 forget about the two at the top and how they have 80% of all the money to themselves.

“The two people at the top decide how our entire house of 100 people will relate to all of the people in the other houses around our neighborhood. Some years ago, the people at the top of our house decided they didn’t like the people in the “Iran” house. They paid the people in the house next door, called the “Iraq” house, to attack the people living in the Iran house. When the fighting between them got hard for Iraq, our house sent them more money to keep the fight going. This went on for years.

“The people who controlled our house became good friends with the “father” in the Iraq house. His name was Saddam. We liked him and helped him a lot. Some people in our house said, ‘But how can you like him when he hits and kills members of his own family?’ They were ignored by the leaders of our house. They didn’t want to ruin the good friendship we had with Saddam.

“Saddam was a good neighbor to us, even if he was bad to his own family. He was fighting the Iran house AND he gave us something we liked and needed. It was called OIL.

“Then, one day, Saddam decided he wanted more oil because he wanted to sell even more of it and make more money. So he decided to attack the tiny house next door, called the “Kuwait House.” Because of this, the people in our house started to change their mind about our friend, Saddam. After all, we thought, we’re friends with the Kuwait house too and they also give us oil. And if Saddam has their house and their oil too, then he might ask us for more money to get the oil from him.

“We said that attacking the Kuwait house was wrong. No nation should attack another nation unless they are attacked first. We talked to every other house in the neighborhood about this problem. Almost every single house agreed with us, the biggest and richest house, that we all need to group together, as a community, and force the Iran house to leave the Kuwait house alone and let them live in peace again. “With the help of the entire world, we managed to get Iraq people out of the Kuwait house. But ever since then, we are no longer friends with the Iraq family. In fact, we started to actually hate them more than the Iran family.

“We ignored each other for years and wouldn’t say hi to them when we saw them on the street. People said, ‘Look, Saddam is beating and killing people in his house. Shouldn’t we do something?

“But as terrible as it was, there were at least 30 houses in our neighborhood that had “fathers” just as mean and bad as Saddam. They also beat and killed members of their own family. In fact, the two leaders of our house chose to ignore what was going on in all of the other 30 houses, saying ‘we don’t get involved in inner-family disputes, no matter how bad they are.

“However, the one house that was an exception to this rule was the Iraq house. The man who was the “leader” of our house, George W. Bush, (who became leader, illegally, like Saddam, without actually getting the people to vote for him) decided he hated Saddam so much that he had to use his mistreatment of the Iraq family members as a ‘reason’ to attack him and the people in his house.

“Others sometimes said, ‘Well, why him and not the other 30′ bad fathers?’ Bush said, ‘Uh, uh, …well, uh, he’s got really bad things that could kill us, called weapons of mass destruction and I just know he’s going to be using them on us unless we attack him first.

“Other houses in the neighborhood said, ‘That’s a serious charge. Do you have any proof of this?’ Bush said, ‘We don’t need proof. If we wait for proof, he’ll attack us in the meantime.”

“Other houses said, “But we all agreed that it’s wrong to attack another house unless they attack someone else first. Aren’t you going to be doing the same thing Saddam did to the Kuwait house?”

“Bush said, ‘If you don’t help us, we’ll do it alone.’ Only one of the bigger and richer houses, the United Kingdom, (whose leader, Tony Blair, acts like a obedient poodle around Bush) decided to join our house in the unprovoked attack on the Iraq house.

“Other houses said, ‘We don’t like Saddam either. But why attack his entire house and everyone in it, just to get him? Isn’t that like burning down the entire barn to get rid of the rats inside of it?

“But Bush wouldn’t listen. He and Blair attacked the Iraq house. They killed lots of people and destroyed much of the house. Now, other houses in the neighborhood, like Iran, Russia and North Korea are getting nervous. They have decided that they don’t want to be the next ones attacked by Bush, so they are building more weapons and getting more soldiers to protect their houses.

“So Bush got what he wanted. And the people in the Iraq house are having a much harder time since he attacked them. Some say this was good and in the long term, it will be very beneficial. Some say the opposite. Time will tell.

“But the lesson here is this: It is always wrong to attack an entire house, just to get at one man who lives there. It is better to get the support and agreement of the entire neighborhood instead of just deciding you know best, all on your own. And peace can never be obtained through killing and destruction.

When you see the hellhole that the Bush Administration and its supporters have created in Iraq: thousands killed and maimed, thousands tortured by our troops, America’s good name destroyed, much more violence than there ever was under Saddam, people forced to flee their homes, women no longer being able to walk down the street alone, massive American military bases, and billions and billions flushed down the toilet, every month, this criminal occupation is a nightmare. It’s actually much worse than opponents even predicted it would be back in 2003.

And over 50% of both Shites and Sunnis in Iraq agree, publicly, that is is acceptable to kill American soldiers. That is what we have reaped through this invasion and occupation.

Those who were in favor of this atrocity should be hanging their heads in shame. I’m sure you now agree.

BELOW IS MY RESPONSE:

First: My name is not Irma.

Second: What must it be like to get up every day and just be a sad sack, fatalist Democrat liberal?
Please refer to Post: Liberal MISERY

I cannot relate to it. – but, I will aggressively rebuke your posting.

I would like to respond first, to the following section:

This is what I would have told my son, five years ago. It is more true today, five years later, then it even was then. Best to you: …

through…

…Those 20 at the bottom are trying to get YOUR money!” Usually this works and most of the other 78 forget about the two at the top and how they have 80% of all the money to themselves.

Jim, you have done a great job describing the living conditions under the evil dictator Saddam, except you left out a few important points.

1. Health care: Do you know what the conditions of clinics and hospitals prior to the Iraq War? We are talking 3rd world conditions with – as you stated only the privileged received any care, period.

2. I think your math is off on the “2” that live like kings. It was more like three, living like Sadistic DICTATORS. Saddam, Uday and, Qusay. And I would associate the “18” as the baath party members that enjoyed the privileged life in the Iraq society.

The two at the top control all of the information…

A few issues here, too.
Yes, the <3> dictators controlled all media, and if any of the 98 spoke out – Torture, Gassing, Death, Mass Graves. And, as we all know, since you meant Bush, Cheney… How you say they control the media, is simply laughable.

Please refer to Post: Remember Iraq

You can’t be serious, if you think this administration has had any control over the liberal media… — just laughable.

We said that attacking the Kuwait house was wrong…. …we all need to group together, as a community, and force the Iran house to leave the Kuwait house alone and let them live in peace again.

OK, here… Iran did not invade Kuwait… that would have been your Dictator and his sons- Iraq.

Iran? Where the hell did that come from?

With the help of the entire world, we managed to get Iraq people out of the Kuwait house. But ever since then, we are no longer friends with the Iraq family. In fact, we started to actually hate them more than the Iran family.

Facts…

1. Kuwait is one of our allies.

2. Iraq invaded Kuwait with no provocation.

3. Iran… Run also by an Evil Dictator, is not an ally of the United States.

4. To oppose 2, 10, whatever, Countries run by Evil Dictators is not morally wrong. Throughout your post, it looks like you support such countries and how these dictators treat their population.

— oh, and of course we should chat with those, who only wish our death. Negotiation, I guess, is what you would call it. But, how do you actually negotiate with that?

Okay. We’re going to negotiate with these people.

Their starting point is: you’re dead. “We’re not stopping ’til you’re dead.”

What’s our counter? Do we say, “Uh, okay. How about, will you let us live for 50 years?”

“No. We’re going to wipe you out in 30.”

“Okay, well, uh, will you only take an arm from each of us for the first 50 years?”

“Nope. We’re going to kill you all as soon as we can.”

“No, no, no, no. That’s not fair! We’re negotiating with you. Will you settle for two arms and let us live?”

“Nope. Our mission is to kill you, infidel.”

“Okay, uh, how about an arm and a leg and let us live for 50 years?”

“No! We are not compromising.”

“Okay, how about if you kill half of us, the Republicans? If we give you the Republicans, will you –”

“No! We are going to kill all of you.”

My point is, where do you negotiate with this? How do you negotiate with people whose objective is to kill you? I’m sorry. I know it’s a hard, cold reality we all have to face here, folks.

“Well, how about if we let you have the Republicans and all the right wingers, and those damn Neo-cons?”

“No, we are going to kill every one of you, and you will be first.”

How do you negotiate with that, folks? On what threshold or basis is there reason for any kind of settlement? — Dangerously ridiculous.

As far as your references to war for “OIL“, I hate to repeat myself so, I will refer you to another previous post: WAR, OIL, and American Democrats…

To continue.

George W. Bush, (who became leader, illegally, like Saddam, without actually getting the people to vote for him)…

This premise and moral equivalence is ridiculous. Many, if not all, liberals live in the past and create their own self-indulging fiction of history. To finally put this absurd position to rest, please refer to Post: Re-living Florida 2000, again?

Those who were in favor of this atrocity should be hanging their heads in shame.

Only liberals, need to hang their heads in shame for declaring defeat.
